The Expansion of E-Commerce: Online Medical Monitoring

The range of industries involved in e-commerce continues to expand as businesses find ways to provide new products and services online.  The latest demonstration of this trend is online medical monitoring.  Health care providers are beginning to use modified videoconferencing technology to monitor patients who are recovering at home.

Online medical monitoring permits nurses to monitor more patients and permits patients to recover at home, where they are likely to be more comfortable than in a hospital, from a wider variety of the ailments.  Expanding the practice to isolated communities may give patients in small towns access to specialized medical evaluation only available in large population centers.  Certainly, if the monitoring of medical conditions can be accomplished online with emerging technology, there is virtually no limit to the range of products and services that can be provided in this manner.
