Though Wikipedia remains popular with users, it is losing volunteer editors at an alarming rate.  In the first quarter of 2009, the site suffered a net loss of more than 49,000 volunteer editors, more than ten times the net loss for the same period in 2008.

District Court Applies Calder Effects Test in Typosquatting Case

On November 13, 2009, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan applied the Calder effects test in granting a defendant's motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction, pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 12(b)(2), or, in the alternative, to transfer venue.  Weather Underground, Inc. v. Navigation Catalyst Systems, Inc., 2009 WL 3818191 (E.D. Mich. Nov. 13, 2009).

E-Commerce Law Briefs: Week of November 16, 2009

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued an advisory warning of "noticeable increases" in efforts to hack into the computer systems of law and public relations firms.  This trend began as many as two years ago.  Current schemes often center around so-called "spear fishing" attacks, which involve personalized emails that appear harmless and can slip through common security measures.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has announced the end of the the popular micro-blogging site's "Suggested Users List."
